I'm about to finish my 2000 word essay on divorce as the deadline is fast approaching, but it's ok, as I only have about 1959 words to go and a hour hour :D

I typed up 'Islamic Family Law' into my most favouritest search engine ever.. google :faint: and found a short document outlining the basics of Islamic Family Law in "Islamic" countries. It explains that any children born in an ''Islamic'' country are regarded as Muslims, that the children need the father's permission to leave the country and it says a few things about guardianship.

This cute little piece then ends with

''PERSONS CONTEMPLATING SUCH MARRIAGE SHOULD GIVE SERIOUS CONSIDERATION TO THE POTENTIAL DIFFICULTIES DESCRIBED IN THIS PAMPHLET."

What marriages?

Why, marriage to Muslims.

Saima, why don't you blog properely? I hope everyone is in the best of health and and Iman (faith). It's been a while since I've spoken to most people, all that remains are little happy Ramadan texts and emails. I wonder what everyone is up to. Time seems to be going so fast, one minute I'm eating the leftovers from a random iftaari for suhoor (ok, not quite)the next it's time to huddle (have my ribs crushed) in a hot,claustrophobic uni masjid between a few lovely somali sisters.

I think it's day three of ramadan, already. There was a talk yesterday by Imam Zia Ullah Khan, he's Canadian-Saima, AP, you must know him. It was entitled 'Igniting the flames of Faith.' I'm currently fasting so I'll refrain from commenting on the connotations insha Allah (yes, I intend to keep this up after Ramadan too). It was a good talk alhamdulilah and it was mainly based on Taqwa. Indeed that is (was?) my msn display name, perhaps that's ironic.

Imam Ziah ..Ullah Khan tried to define Taqwa and I think it boiled down to consciousness of God. The example of someone walking through a a thorn bush was given,

"The thorns represent destructive forces that are ready to snag at the clothing of someone walking through. Those who have taqwa will save themselves from these thorns by gathering their clothes and walking carefully so that they do not get scratched by the thorns."

Taqwa is a means of preventation from that which is harmful to ourselves, to our deen and faith. If we find that we do not have Taqwa by the end of Ramadan then we have not truly fasted. It is only by gaining Taqwa, by sheltering ourselves from everyday things that ruin our hearts and faith that we can gain from the Qur'an. Attaining Taqwa can be done through rememberance of Allah (God) and upholding our religion. To have Taqwa also denotes that one has fear of Allah swt and that we remember Him in everything that we do. The best way in which to spread the message is to be a witness to it (inspired by Tariq Ramadan). Instead of expecting people to know and read about Islam, WE should be the books, people should be able to read us and understand Islaam.

Insha Allah I'll post the characteristics of someone who has Taqwa another time. I think I may have killed (revived?) the GB mood with this :look: (ah, islamica is still with me).

Good riddance, I say. I kid, the blog has deteriorated considerably. Where is Jam, saima?hello? Where have all the good men gone? (Has a new marriage booth opened up, or are we all shoe shopping?)

Despite our admin's attempts to recruit a team of able, creative, brown..people, well, you can all see it for yourselves - Golden Brown is no mo (as in no more, not mo-hammed.)

Btw, for those who watch that crappy show called X factor (for our american fellows- it's a show in which simon someone tells people how rubbish they are at singing, performing and dressing themselves)- not all welsh people are like that -

Did I mention that my accent is much more refined? My gosh. How humiliating. One thing I can't deny , however, is that yes, the majority of people aren't exactly easy on the eye, and we go on about Charlotte Church way too much. Did I mention that she lives down the road? Nice lass (no, I did not say a piece of ask)
